OUR Society Needs women Leaders

Beginning with entry-level positions, women are promoted to management 14% less often than men. This disparity may not seem like a lot, but it compounds the further one travels up the corporate ladder.

  • Only 8% of CEOs at Fortune 500 companies are women.

  • Only 22% of elected officials in the United States are women.

IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY:

  • Governing bodies led by women produce laws, rulings, and decisions that are more representative of diverse views and opinions.

  • Countries led by women experience lower levels of income inequality.

  • Peace agreements negotiated by women are 35% more likely to last 15 years or longer.

  • Companies led by women outperform the national average by 21%.

Leaders Aren’t Born, They are inspired

AGS is a private school with a public purpose. We opened in 2000 with a mission to inspire girls to lead lives of purpose. As the only independent non-sectarian all-girls’ school in Atlanta, we don’t just teach girls how to lead, we help them access that space inside of themselves.

100% of AGS graduates have been admitted to four-year colleges and universities, including every Ivy League university.

The middle-range SAT score for AGS graduates is 1190-1350, exceeding both the Georgia average (1010) and the national average (1060).

Over 20% of AGS’s Class of 2022 matriculated to a STEM-focused college or university, compared to the average among co-ed schools (2%).

REFLECTING ATLANTA’S
DIVERSITY

With approximately 200 students hailing from 60 of metro Atlanta’s 92 zip codes, AGS is the only independent school in Atlanta that reflects the city’s social and economic diversity—a distinction we cultivate intentionally.

  • 60% of AGS students are people of color (46% African American, 7% Asian, 3% Middle Eastern, and 4% multiracial.)

  • AGS is an open and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ students.

  • Tailored tuition ensures a diverse and inclusive community where opportunity isn’t limited by one’s socioeconomic background.

    • 42% of AGS families receive need-based tuition assistance, compared to 27% among other independent schools.

    • Financial aid packages are roughly 50% larger than other independent schools in Atlanta.

    • More than 20% of AGS’s annual budget is committed to need-based financial aid.

LEarn Like A Girl

AGS encourages girls to discover who they are by removing the pressure to be who they are not. It is a space free from gendered expectations and limitations, where AGS students discover, inspire, and lead.

Girls’ school graduates are 6 times more likely to choose traditionally male-dominated majors such as math, science, and technology.

Graduates of girls’ school are 12% more likely to participate in political discourse.

As the only non-sectarian girls’ school in Atlanta, AGS gives girls the space to cultivate their own identity, and the resources to amplify it.

LEAD LIKE A GIRL

Education at AGS isn’t about finding your place in the world, it’s about building confidence and taking ownership of the world you want to live in.

  • Leadership Labs cultivate the next generation of leaders by helping each student identify her strengths, challenges, gifts, and purpose.

  • Travel opportunities enlarge our students’ perspectives on the world.

  • Community engagement allows students to explore new opportunities while building strong networks in their community.

  • Senior speeches provide opportunities for students to exercise their voices and position themselves as leaders within a supportive community.

IMAGINE A WORLD WITH NO GLASS CEILING

Systemic disadvantages and social conditioning have caused many young women to think of education as a personal attribute rather than a pathway to social, political, and economic success. This is especially true for young women of color.

At AGS, we’re rewriting that script. We don’t just educate our students, we give them the tools and inspiration they need to take ownership of their dreams and transform society.

WE CAN’T DO IT ALONE

Compared to other independent schools, AGS’s endowed security and tuition revenue is low. In order to maintain our commitment to students of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, AGS requires annual support and the foundation for a strong endowment.

Your support provides us with the resources necessary to help each student discover her voice and become a powerful force of change in her community.
